This welcoming concert features music composed in the time of Women’s Suffrage in the US and the UK, including a violin sonata by Ethel Smyth, a British composer who famously associated with suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst and author Virginia Woolf. She composed the official anthem of the Women’s Social and Political Union. The evening will also include lecture and welcoming speech from musicologist Dr. Elizabeth Wood, a renowned scholar on Smyth’s work.
